Floral Fabrics

Floral fabrics are a versatile choice for quilting, patchwork, dressmaking, bags, accessories and homewares. Designs range from small repeating florals and ditsy prints to larger blooms and botanical prints, making print scale an important consideration when choosing fabric for a project.

Small-scale floral prints work well for piecing, smaller pattern pieces and projects where the design needs to remain visible after cutting. Larger floral prints have more room to show the artwork and can work well for feature quilt blocks, bags, selected clothing projects and other pieces with larger uninterrupted areas.

Floral prints are available across a range of fabric types, including quilting cotton, linen and cotton blends, cotton lawn, canvas, poplin, drill, jersey, French terry and wideback fabric. The fabric type, weight and structure are just as important as the print when choosing a floral fabric for a particular sewing project.

Australian native floral fabrics are also represented throughout the collection, with designs featuring botanicals such as gum blossoms, wattle, banksia and other native flowers. These sit alongside other botanical, traditional and contemporary floral prints.

When choosing a floral fabric, consider the size and direction of the design as well as the fabric type. A small repeating print may be easier to use across detailed pattern pieces, while a large-scale or directional floral may need more consideration when cutting and positioning the design.
